mackinac island

Last weekend I trekked up to Mackinac Island, MI. The island is only accessible via ferry and there are no cars allowed. Horse-drawn carriages and bikes abound. Even if you bike at a leisurely pace, stop and explore the beaches of Lake Huron, a cave here or there, gaze at some loons and hike up many steps to see Arch Rock as we did, biking the entire circumference of the island takes less than two hours.

We took the trip for a picturesque wedding at the white church pictured here. There are several quaint churches, one chain (Starbucks) and no less than 10 fudge shops. The island is known for biking and fudge. Interesting combo, no?
